These words are specifically chosen. We are eclectic, self-created from what we have read and experienced. We borrow from traditional sources (Cunningham, Starhawk), adjust the recipe liberally through personal gnosis --that individual relationship with the Gods that can only be experienced, not taught --add a dash of Discordianism and playfulness, season with time, trial-and-error, and practice, and serve the whole mess with a healthy portion of skepticism, curiosity, and the absolute belief that there are no absolute beliefs. The primary common tenets we hold are "If it harms none, do as you will", "Whatever you do returns to you threefold", and "Don't belittle anyone else's Road; we all have to find our own paths based on Who we find within us" (also sometimes worded as "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination"- yes, that's the phrase from Star Trek. We said we'll steal from anywhere. :).
Despite our eclecticism, we are a tradition of NeoPagan Wicca, celebrating the cycle of the seasons, the phases of the Moon, the dance of the Lord and Lady, and the magick inherent in all these things. We reverence the traditional Wiccan Mysteries as found in the Charge of the Goddess, but place much less emphasis on the use of polarity in ritual, and more on the mysteries of the Goddess within us all. Each Hearth interprets these in their own way, based on being responsive to the needs of the members. We also put our own spin on Wicca; we call our practice Storyteller Wicca. In tribal and pre-modern communities, the telling of stories gave the people their history, mythology, and entertainment. Even today, the word storyteller conjures up the wise one who both entertains and educates. We treat ritual as not only a magickal and spiritual act, but also a creative act, using anything from drama to music to poetry to set the atmosphere in which we can do magick, and base our Wheel of the Year on a set of stories for each holiday.
